Clear concise evangelical commentary that addresses today's issues and is also well made and well printed. Best NBC yet!

The New Bible Commentary 21st Century Edition: Although my new copy arrived from Amazon with bent corners due to poor packing (no padding whatsoever) the volume itself is noteworthy. The materials: the paper is thin but very high contrast. The text is easy to read and nicely printed. Another nice surprise is the volume is sewn bound (i.e. whip stitching) and so lays flat and seems very sturdy. The size of the book is not cumbersome to hold and looks great displayed next to the New Bible Dictionary also from IVP. Over the years I have enjoyed the fine evangelical scholarship of previous versions of this volume and this edition seems even better. The book includes fine informative commentary on each of the 66 books of the Bible. It has honest orthodox articles that truthfully deal with modern issues on each major section of the Bible that make this edition even better. I tell myself I am a Bible student majoring in New Testament and as a serious layman (who is trying to learn New Testament Greek) I can honestly say this new edition will be an even better study aid than the previous versions (and I really liked those!). To serious Bible students everywhere this book lives up to its jacket descriptions. A++ and thanks to IVP for another helpful Bible tool.

The best one-volume commentary on the market

I refer to this commentary all the time in my study; both devotional and for sermon prep. You would be hard-pressed to find a finer collection of today's evangelical scholars/commentators as is assembled here. Each book of the Bible is given thorough treatment in lay language by a scholar who has immersed himself in that book for years. This is money very well-spent. Highly recommended.

One of the best one volume bible commentaries

I have nearly all one volume Bible commentaries, you name it, I have it!!!!. I am a real Bible commentary lover. In my opinion, this is one of the best one volume Bible commentaries that I have had. It contains more detail and it is much easier to read and be digested than any other one volume commentaries. Only one drawback is that there are only a few technical terms (Hebrew and Greek )that sometime we need to know more what the original words seem to speak for. If you can have only one or two one volume commentaries, you may try this very one and the KJ Bible Commentary. I think King James Bible Commentary will be the best one volume commentary that you will ever find in the market!!!!
