An excellent first book on FEA

I just received this text and am strongly considering it for an undergraduate course on FEA here at Duke University. It's very well written and concise. Advanced undergraduate students, beginning graduate students, and researchers in industry shouldn't have a problem picking it up and getting up to speed on finite elements quickly.

What's also nice is that this book contains some advanced material on finite strain problems and small-strain plasticity that is difficult to find elsewhere in such an accessible form. There is a much better emphasis here, for example, on the numerical implementation for such problems than what is provided in the text by Bonet and Wood.

First course on FEM

This was the textbook for my first course in the finite element method. It's a pretty good book, but I don't think this would be the best book to buy if you are trying to learn FEM on your own. Even with the help of the instructor, I still had a fairly difficult time grasping some of the concepts. The biggest problem with the book is the paucity of worked examples. The author presents the information on the topic and then moves on to the next topic with very little demonstration of how that knowledge is actually applied. More coverage of the application of the methods would have been very useful.

waste of money

this book is totally waste of money. i bought it because it was our official textbook but i had never used it. dont understand why my professor choose this book. if u wanna learn FEM, this is not for you.
